Up and Down

Sometimes life can get lonely. Being on the other side of the world. But really, sometimes just being anywhere.

As much as I sometimes tell people I just meet that I'm not a very touchy person (which is sometimes true at this point), sometimes I CRAVE it. Just a hug. From a child. From a friend. From a parent. Just saying.

So far this year has been up and down. And generally I have a pretty positive outlook - because really, there is always SOMETHING good. Even if it's not what's right in your face, or on your mind. And if it's down then why talk about it so much - at least not to the world. I think that's normal. Whatever normal is.

Anyways, some interesting thoughts from my contemplative bus ride read home today:
"Whether or not we allow depression to rule our lives is largely up to us. We can use the past to drive it away. We can use the future to impact it with hope. And in the present, we can choose to do those things that will change our dispositions. What we do influences what we feel. And that is our good fortune, because that gives us control over our emotional destiny." (Carpe Diem, p. 217-218)

I'm not defining my emotional status any which way, but some good thoughts no matter what we feel we are.
