Life as a teacher…

The week is over and it is once again Saturday morning. I’ve decided that this time is officially for sleeping in, Skype, email, reading, resting, and snacking… oh yes, and wearing pajamas!! But, the problem is that the time just goes so quickly, and as it does, I become increasingly more aware that I should be going for a run and then marking the 80 journals I collected on Friday. But alas, I am still sitting here in my pajamas… So instead of moving I shall give an update on teaching life! (mise well, right Stef?)

The school:

There is the expectation that students in the same course should be learning the same thing at the same time – despite differences in teachers. So as a result, each subject has a department head. There were no returning teachers who stepped up to be Dept Head for Planning 10 (health/career education), so myself and another new teacher are taking it on. At the moment we think this mostly means acting as the go-to people and creating the Course Overview and schedules… but we shall see!

My office:

IS THE BEST!!! There are 10 of us who have our offices in room 321 – mostly PE and Planning teachers but then a few other randoms as well. Basically we are the FUN office! Some highlights are: our bright yellow bread maker that has now made us 2 loaves of bread, mega desk, nicknames, playing catch in the hallway to get a break from working, and overall hilarious banter!

Classes:

Our class schedule runs from 7:40 to 3:40 – a much longer day than schools at home. I’m teaching 1 PE and 3 Planning classes, which I’ve been super blessed with! I’m thankful that I get to teach 3 of the same class, because though I may feel terribly unorganized and unsuccessful after my first lesson, it always gets better by the end of the day! In Planning right now we are in the middle of a Nutrition unit and we have been watching the movie Supersize Me. And in PE we are finishing up a Minor Games unit and will be starting Badminton this coming week.

Mystery in my Apartment!!!

On an unrelated topic, when I entered my apartment last night I noticed my dish soap had been moved about 10cm to the left of where I had been keeping it on my counter… hmmm! Now you may think that is not a big deal, but I am a very observant person and I know where I put my dish soap! ;) But this morning I remembered that one of my window screens was supposed to get fixed, so I checked it out – and sure enough, it was fixed and the window was left unlocked and open (in my bedroom!) and the one in my kitchen (that they obviously had to move the dish soap to fix) also no longer had a hole that I was afraid the monster spider would crawl through. So it’s good that it’s fixed, but I don’t particularly like that someone comes in here when I’m not here without telling me! Oh China!

…. Now on to the rest of my Saturday.
