Maybe I'm a little bit proud when it comes to having a sense of direction. Because usually I do. Plus I like maps, which makes sense. Right? (though of course now that I state this, be prepared for a ridiculous LOST story to appear sometime soon to put me back in my place!)
My most proud moment was probably when I arrived in Rome on a train late at night and decided to study the map ahead of time and then find my hostel without it - you know, so I wouldn't look like the lost traveler wandering the allies vulnerably at midnight. Right. The good news is that it pretty much worked. Thus, my most proud direction story.
Having a sense of direction, I like to know where I am as much as possible. So despite the fact that I don't drive in China or read chinese, I still know how to get to my house and other such important places. But apparently tonight's taxi driver didn't, which somehow made me quite irritated at the moment because it meant I had to pay more. I KNOW the direct route, how long it should take and how much it should cost, and it's pretty much on the main road so it should be easy. So I was a little annoyed, but of course i had no way of expressing that which was probably for the best. The extra amount was really only about $0.50, so why was I so annoyed?
It reminded me a little of an email I got from a friend last night about an argument she had observed and how it was somewhat meaningless. Basically, what's 50 cents? Ok, not so much... to me. Maybe I should be more embarrassed about my irritation. Yep. Probably.
hmmm...
