The Mating Call

So this one time at Bible camp (about 10 years ago...) I perfected this noise that I entitled my "Mating Call." It was during those times that we would play games in the woods - in nature - with the entire camp. There was this one game in particular where the camp counselors like myself would hide and the campers had to find us. I always liked hiding - but mostly so I could scare people by jumping out or creeping up on them. So after sitting in hiding for a while without being found I got a little bored. Thus, the Mating Call was born... a calling in the woods. A loud calling in hopes someone would find me.

For the purposes of camp games, it sure helped me to be found. For "mating" purposes... not so much.

Anyways, I was reminded of this happy noise the other night as I celebrated American Thanksgiving with my brothers and sisters at the International church I attend.  There are a lot of Africans and it turns out my special noise is not so special in their company. So, needlesstosay, I got to try it out once again. Oh fond memories of mating calls.

However, yet again, not so effective for mating purposes. Shucks. Maybe it's because I've managed to put myself in hiding again... this time in the depths of China. Oh don't worry Canada, I will be back to your woods.

Hi Rachel! My friend suggested that I read your comment on "10 Tips for Dating In Your 20's" b/c she "LOL'd". I loved reading your story and it was enjoyably humorous! What an experience that must have been! Thanks so much for sharing! :) Where in China are you? I was in Yanji, China for missions last summer! Definitely eye opening there!

Thanks for reading :) I'm in Dalian - in northeast China - working at an international school. I will have to look up Yanji on a map! That must have been a cool opportunity as well. I like the idea you used on your blog - using black paper to make outer space and then drawing on it with chalk. I start teaching about Space next week and may have to use that idea!
