When you work at a private school in China…

1. The school is locked at 10pm with bike locks securely fastened around the door handles

2. A good-night song (?!?!?) blasts from the school at 10pm when the lights go out that sounds like the trumpets that are played for Remembrance Day in Canada

3. Yes, the street lights also turn off at 10pm, so I often try to beat the lights home or settle for walking with the stars

4. The newly installed security cameras outside our apartments may or may not pick up anything after the lights go out

5. You get a free cafeteria lunch that you may adventure to try – I usually opt for it once a week

6. Your power or water supply may easily be cut at any moment during the week without notice

7. The lady whose sole job is doing the photocopying, does not use the machine to hole-punch or staple anything

8. You may find presents for a teacher who no longer works at the school in a cupboard near your desk and decide to eat the chocolate you find…
