It’s 5:06 and I’m still in my office talking and laughing about today… So instead of continuing to distract my office mates from their work (and myself because I have to write a Quiz for tomorrow), I shall blog! Maybe I’ll start by turning on some music for these empty earphones that have been in my ears for the last 5 or so minutes…
Done! Music is on… Ah yes!
Weird Day! You would have no idea it was morning when I woke up – the sky was as dark as could be. And it’s all about conserving power here, so it’s not like they ever turn on streetlights! Anyways, some of the weather highlights so far today have been: when it seemed as if they turned on a light and suddenly the sky had light, the lightning and thunder, the low ORANGE sky and the wind that blew the soccer balls off the field and sent my crazy students running after them.
Today’s Planning lesson: Investigate the Resume! Question #1 “What is a resume?” – pretty much only ONE girl knew in each class! Good thing I randomly decided yesterday to teach this lesson and made a quick handout before 7am this morning! Question #2 “What are Common Sections in a Resume?” – they had to wander around the room and compare different resume samples to find the common sections such as: Name, Address, Experience, Education, Skills, etc. Oh dear!! I just love how much HELP these girls need to find such things (grade 10, remember!). I was literally leaning over them pointing at the names on two different resumes and saying “Hmmm what do you notice is similar? (tap, tap, tap on the paper..) Look at where I am pointing!” …finally… “Ahhhh NAME!” “YES! A Name, congratulations! What is under the name……..?” (it seems like minutes are passing…) “ummm (but instead they say “nigger” which means UMMMM in Chinese), email, address…” YES!! Seriously, you can’t get frustrated! Just play it up! It can be kind of entertaining J
One of my most energetic and emerging leaders in PE class kept seeing me throughout the day in the halls and every time would say “Hi Goshulak!” (Yes, most of my students simply call me Goshulak. It’s pretty funny!) She thought it was so funny and would giggle and smile every time with her little stuffed animal key chain bouncing around outside her pocket! This is the same student who would openly pout and not participate when she didn’t get her way about a month ago. We had a little talk and you wouldn’t even know it was the same girl anymore! I am SOOOO pleased with her effort, enthusiasm and leadership! She stepped on the soccer ball and completely bailed a few weeks ago, laughed her head off and got back up and kept playing! That’s my kind of girl!
Yesterday during Planning class one girl’s cell phone rang and I had to take her phone – as is our policy. I was surprised how cooperative she was, as most girls refuse to give up their phone and insist in arguing. Anyways so today the same girl came up to me saying, “Teacher, can I please have my cell phone card back? I have to go for surgery this Saturday! And I could lose my leg!” Really now? So I laughed, hopped around on one leg, and asked her if she would come to school on Monday like this! Haha!
5:44pm
Ok, back to that Quiz!
