Breaking through the gates!

Our school no longer allows outside vehicles through the gate where the school and teacher apartments (my house) are located, so after bringing us home our driver stopped outside the gate to let us out. We pressured her to honk her horn but it didn't do any good. Since it was after 10pm and we were lazy, I thought I'd get out of the car to see what I could do. We had nothing to lose... It went something like this:

Me: (calling to the guard who had just appeared) Open!

Guard: No!

Me: Yes!

Guard: No! (saying something in Chinese that I didn't understand but I thought I heard shi (the number ten))

Me: shi kuai? (ten kuai - about $1.50 - basically, can we bribe you?)

Guard: No!

Me: (sad face. I began to limp and drag my right leg across the pavement towards Guard 2 and then leaned against him when I reached him)

Guard 1, 2, 3, 4: (peak out at the scene. laughing)

Guard 1: (said something that seemed to mean OK!)

Me: (ran - oops! - to the car and jumped in)

They then opened the gate and we all died with laughter at our success as we drove through!
But will it work a second time?!? Only time will tell. If not, I've got another trick up my sleeve. (Ni shi wo de shuai pengyou ma?) Hopefully it will come to mind as quickly as this one did.
