Ultimate Epiphany. I’m teaching an Ultimate Frisbee unit right now in PE and I STINK at throwing a Frisbee! With some encouragement from my students I got a little lesson from another PE teacher on how to throw the Frisbee. We started practicing in the hallway but were forced to relocate outside when I kept hitting the wall and windows. Oops! Generally I consider myself pretty athletic so it’s seriously embarrassing how bad I am at Frisbee. Turns out that when you’re doing something wrong you shouldn’t continue to throw it hoping it will get better, you need to look at what you’re doing and try something DIFFERENT! I couldn't help but think about how this related to my desires and my walk with God. First I must keep my eyes on my target. Secondly I can’t twist my hand to control the Frisbee, but I must instead hold it loosely in front of me and release it towards my target. Wow.
Caramel Popcorn vs. Creepy Crawlies. I got a package from my parents this last week (thanks Mom and Dad!!) that contained homemade caramel popcorn which I LOVE! I could have easily eaten it ALL right way, but I tried to make it last. I was finishing up the last fistful a few days later when I noticed a little something crawling on my shirt next to the piece I dropped… and then I noticed a hoard of creepy crawlies in the bag with the rest of the popcorn. I had a very tough decision to make… to eat or not to eat?!? …I just love caramel popcorn so much! I went for the NOT. Sad day.
Students!!! My students are great! A Korean student put on a Charity Concert last night and it was fantastic to see students in normal clothes (I mostly see them in their turtle uniforms) and shining on stage singing or dancing. And I thoroughly enjoyed convincing a student to try a PB and banana sandwich that she ended up loving! Kids here are different from home. It’s cool to say Hi to your teachers all the time and for boys to sing and dance. Laughing and waving my hands around with these Asian gangsters was a definite highlight! This week I even had a student sneak up from behind and swing her arm around me in a side hug. Good ol’ Side hugs!
Sex Ed….!?!? As a Planning teacher I get the privilege of teaching Sex Education, which to be honest, is the one thing I was NOT looking forward to teaching. All the Planning teachers divided up the units to create Unit Plans and the teacher I’m working with chose Sex Ed. How convenient. At least by preparing the unit I could attempt to educate myself and get rid of all of my schoolgirl giggles. Starting tomorrow I will have to be mature… right? OH MY GOODNESS!!!
